Defender Boardset.

This is probably the most vital part of the arcade game itself, the Boardset. It consists of the main board, the rom board the sound board and the interface board. This comes up quite often on U.S. Ebay and luckily so , cause over here in the U.K. they fetch about £200.00 + This one i managed to get complete with the metal mounting plate, which was damn lucky as i need that too ! I have to say a big thankyou to the wife Pinxy as she sniped this for me for only £99.00, and considereing its working, its  a major result ! Just got to be patient now and wait for it to arrive.

There are 2 different types of Defender boardset, they look the same almost, but the main large board has its componets in different places. This boardset is the earlier type not the later one. Also the rom boards come with different colour roms on them, either white/red or white/green.The best one to get is a Boardset with a white/red romset, as this one is. Whilst im waiting for this to arrive i'm going to focus on getting the last piece i need, a Monitor...

Defender Literature.
Although not part of the Restoration itself, i thought it would be nice to have, the advertising literature, that was given out to Operators when Defender was first launched. Again through U.S. Ebay i managed to get these flyers in mint condition for less than  5 Dollars each. It would be really cool if i could find a poster too, so i'm keeping my eyes peeled ...

Defender Boardset Cont...
Well here it is at last. All the way from the U.S.A. and provided it still works, it was worth the wait. I have given it the once over and everything looks O.K. but we all know how things are deceiving.
So the sooner i can get a Monitor (one on its way from Europe...) and get it up and running the better.
Things are really starting to take shape now, so i'm hoping to have it working
before Christmas (2002) and as its now November it aint too far away....
Only one thing left to source now and thats the missing origional P.S.U. as i have said before, i'm not going to use it but i want the cab to be all complete and to have all its origional parts, so more rummaging through U.S. Ebay is needed.

Fitting of Boardset.

When i first got the Cab, one of the first things i did, was to hoover out the inside of it. Luckily all over the floor of the Cab were a load of screws left from when the origional boardset had been removed. Where the boardset mounts to the inside of the Cab there are strips of ground braiding, in fact these run all over the Cab to the various items that need grounding. In some places they are stapled to the wood, but where they attatch to components, there will be a hole in the braiding, where a screw goes though and obviously they line up with holes in the wood.
So you might find it easier to get a friend to help you, as sometimes you need 2 pairs of hands. One person to hold the boardset (on its backing plate) in place, whilst you line up the braiding and do up the screws, obviously where there are holes in the metal backing plate, these also line up with holes in the wood
, you will find that some of the braiding runs along on top of the backing plate and shares some of the same mounting holes as the backing plate.

Origional Power supply unit (P.S.U.)

Well repeatedly missing out on ones on U.S. Ebay got a bit frustrating and luckily a mate on # Jamma offered me one of his (Thanx Math) and as he is Restoring a Defender too, we did a trade and he got some brand new white buttons that i had spare. The unit is untested and possibly does'nt work, so i plan to do a re-furb kit on it, which i will cover a bit later once i have bought the kit.
Upon fitting the boardset and offering in the P.S.U. it became apparent, that i didnt have all the wiring inside the Cab, as i have never owned a Defender, i took it for granted, that the loom i had in there connected to everything, but i was wrong, it seems now that i am missing the loom that goes from the P.S.U. and supplys power to everthing...
